Technical Development Manager

Job description

Technical Development Manager

If you're looking for a high-impact, front-facing technical role then this might be your next move.

I'm recruiting for a Technical Development Manager on behalf of an award-winning food manufacturing business in the South of Greater London.

This exciting new role will see you taking ownership of technical, quality and compliance across a branded and private label portfolio, working directly with the UK’s top retailers and travelling across Europe to manufacturing and supplier sites. If you’re looking for visibility, influence and genuine ownership then please do get in touch!

Acting as the technical liaison between retailers, manufacturers and internal stakeholders, this role would offer you direct exposure to major UK retailers. With end-to-end ownership of the manufacturing process from concept to launch, you will have a real sense of autonomy and responsibility as well as an opportunity to climb the Technical ladder. You will be required to travel to European suppliers to lead factory audits, GAP analysis, and assess audit readiness. The nature of this role makes for a particularly hands-on approach, but your existing technical experience would lend well to such a role, enabling a smooth transition.

What you’ll be doing

  • Act as the key technical contact for retailers, suppliers and internal teams

  • Lead and support supplier audits, GAP analysis and audit readiness

  • Attend first productions and support investigations and audit close-outs

  • Support product development through retailer specification and approval processes

  • Draft, review and manage specifications throughout their lifecycle

  • Own certifications

  • Maintain the QMS, manage supplier approval and drive continuous improvement

The ideal candidate would have 5 years experience in FMCG, UK retail experience, product development exposure, strong understanding of BRC standards, and food science degree or equivalent.

Location: Surrey

Salary: £48,000 - 50,000
