Procurement Manager
Company: Major Food Manufacturing Business.
Salary: £40,000 to £55,000.
Bonus: up to 25%.
Are you passionate about fresh food and experienced in procurement? We are seeking a highly motivated Procurement Manager to lead our procurement function in a growing fresh food business. In this key senior role, you will ensure the efficient sourcing, purchasing, and delivery of high-quality raw materials, maintaining product freshness and optimizing costs.
You will lead a small procurement team and work closely with cross-functional departments to achieve operational excellence and contribute to the business's growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Procurement Strategy: Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with business goals. Identify cost-saving opportunities and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and farmers.
• Team Leadership: Lead a small team responsible for procurement and planning, ensuring the smooth flow of raw materials into the production process.
• Supplier Management: Build strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of fresh ingredients. Monitor supplier performance to improve quality, cost, and service levels.
• Sourcing & Purchasing: Evaluate and select new suppliers to ensure a reliable supply chain. Manage purchase orders and inventory levels to maintain optimal stock and minimize waste.
• Quality Control: Collaborate with quality teams to enforce strict standards for fresh food ingredients. Conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Cost Optimization: Continuously improve procurement processes to optimize costs without compromising product quality. Track market trends and use data-driven decision-making.
• Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with production, NPD, and quality teams to ensure a seamless supply chain. Communicate effectively across departments to meet business objectives.
• Compliance & Risk Management: Stay informed of relevant food safety regulations and ensure all procurement activities are legally compliant. Implement risk management strategies to address supplier dependencies and market fluctuations.
Knowledge & Experience
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field. Relevant certifications, such as CIPS, would be an advantage.
• Experience: At least 5 years of experience as a Procurement Manager, preferably in the food industry or working with perishable goods.
• Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with food safety regulations and quality control practices (e.g., HACCP, GMP). Experience in the Scottish salmon or aquaculture sector is a plus.
• Skills: Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills. Proficiency in MS Office and procurement software is essential.
• Attributes: A highly organized team player with strong attention to detail. Must hold a full UK driving license and be available for occasional UK and European travel.
