Job Description

A fantastic, UK family-owned business over 30 years of award-winning experience has an opportunity for a Process and Packaging Technologist.

This is a brilliant opportunity for the right person with bundles of energy, drive, and enthusiasm to join a fast-paced team working the FMCG industry.

Work collaboratively with the Brand/OL NPD team and the operations teams to develop and implement new products.
Ensure the design, adaptation, communication, implementation and embedding of production processes to support the ongoing manufacturing of new and existing products at each site.
Work with the Commercial team, suppliers and with external customers to create new product packaging and amend existing packaging materials and components to meet changing specification requirements to meet the demands of customers.

The Role
• Manage internal projects through the NPD process & Project Manager from concept approval to launch.
• Manage NPD and process improvement trials, working with NPD and operations teams to ensure effective launches.
• Lead NPD process improvement reviews to improve quality and profitability
• Work closely with the purchasing departments on raw materials for new and current products for cost saving projects and product / process quality improvement requirements
• Ensure the internal product development process Is followed
• Co-ordinate NPD Communication to the business for the site
• Create product and launch paperwork to ensure all information regarding product development is available when needed
• Work with other members of the NPD and Technical Team on approving customer’s specifications and artwork.
• Submit best in class product samples to retail, co-manufactures and brand customers and for consumer panels
• Liaise with both the customers and suppliers to ensure new products meet the NPD brief
• Work with suppliers to understand new techniques, flavours, packaging options and products etc.
• Work closely with the engineering and operation departments to identify process improvement opportunities
• Work with Operations to ensure the introduction of NPD has full process capability study completed
Support Launches
• To introduce new products or implement changes to existing products into the business.
• Prepare for pre productions and the launch of new product.
• Attend first production run of products, as and when necessary, to ensure compliance/validation of the specification/process.
• Organisation of the smooth running of production trials
• To produce specifications with all data and process instructions for the operations teams.
• To complete post launch tasks and evaluations as required.
• Organisation of sample requests from trial work

Packaging
• Lead the introduction of new packaging and amendments to existing packaging materials and components in accordance with NPD and Cost Saving initiatives
• Work alongside internal and external stakeholders to ensure structural design integrity, development of creative concepts, mock-ups and samples.
• Provide guidance, advice and support to the relevant teams on packaging structures, materials, print and specification throughout the design process.
• Approval of technical drawings and print specifications to complete product validation
• Manage artwork/repro processes, following approval processes, whilst maintaining system records.
• Conducting factory trials, reporting and liaising directly with stakeholders to support product investigations, optimisation targets and project delivery.
• Assisting in the compilation of finished goods specifications once validated.
• Ensuring BOMs created successfully within timelines

Candidate
• Degree level or equivalent in a Food Science. Technology or Food Engineering
• 3+ years' experience in a relevant field such as Process and Packaging Development
• Experience in a brand led NPD environment working with the key retailers is desirable, as is experience working on ambient products and snacks and popcorn
• Proven packaging development experience involving design, innovation and project management through to commercialisation, within an FMCG background desirable.
• A proven track record in project management gained within the Food, Food Retail or FMCG sectors desirable.
• Demonstrate a competent level of knowledge of printing processes used within the food industries.
• Excellent project management skills supported by strong communication skills
• Good reporting discipline with attention to detail.
• Highly motivated with excellent planning and organisational skills.
• Can do/problem-solving, positive and proactive attitude.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable working across the Microsoft Office suite with strong presentation skills.
• Experience with Adobe suite would also be a plus.
• Packaging operations, packaging materials, specifications, equipment and processes.
