NPD Technologist

The role:
To develop new, safe, legal and commercially viable products in conjunction with internal departments, suppliers and customers.
To refresh or improve current product range recipes and ingredients as required by the needs of the business.
Development of new products from concept to launch including kitchen bench work, pilot plant and scale up trials to handover to the Operations team for full scale production.
Manage the assigned product development processes and documents in line with company and BRC requirements.
Ensure that all assigned projects are appropriately costed in line with commercial expectations
Implement taste panels for new products, production trials, shelf-life samples and production samples.
Liaise with supply chain to source raw materials and packaging for product development projects.
Produce documentation for new formulations and methods – from kitchen to full production handover.
Work with supply chain and technical to obtain specifications and Health & Safety data sheets for all new ingredients used in development, to comply with technical requirements and COSHH regulations.
Use knowledge of nutrition to optimise product formulations in order to comply with product briefs.
Prepare product specifications, pack copy in conjunction with the Technical and Marketing teams.
Development of HACCP for new and existing products in conjunction with the Technical team to ensure all new products are safe and capable of meeting their required shelf life.
Ensure organoleptic testing and data recording is completed as part of the shelf-life verification process.
The candidate:
A flexible attitude to work timings.
A minimum of three years' experience in a similar role
Degree or equivalent in Food Science/Technology
Superb organisational and administrative skills.
Good project management skills.
Great problem-solving skills, with an innovative and creative approach.
Excellent attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate colleges, listen to other people's ideas and opinions and get on with people at all levels.
Ability to work on their own and as part of a team.
Be as comfortable in the factory as you are in the kitchen.
