NPD Specialist – (Senior Procut Developer / Senir NPD Technologist)
Leading Food Manufacture
Based Near Welwyn Garden City
£35,000 – £40,000 + Great Quarltey Bonus + Great Beneifts

Purpose of job

The New Product Development Specialist will design, develop, and improve new and existing owned products for the development of UK objectives.

Ensuring all products deliver against their benchmark and that innovation & newness reflects the commercial vision and requirements and that all products comply with technical & nutritional policies.

To highlight opportunities for NPD to commercial colleagues; both manufactured at site by Third Party manufacture.

Keep abreast of new technologies, ingredients and packaging which can assist in improving the cost or quality of products produced.

To attend events and present future consumer trends to aid the development of an innovation pipeline of ideas

Key outputs/deliverables

-Serve as the technical resource for marketing to develop a robust pipeline of new product development opportunities.

-Develop technical project plans, specifications, and timelines for all assigned projects.

-Proactively look for cost saving by product engineering and/or look for new third-party suppliers for branded products.

-Proactively look to re-engineer existing products whilst maintaining their integrity.

-Produce and Maintain all Product Specifications for all ‘in-house’ NPD.

Principle responsibilities

-Carry out market research to investigate and identify customer needs, upcoming trends, and gaps in the marketplace.

-New product costings including determination of costs for ingredients

-Recipe development and reformulation to achieve an end t that meets customer expectations, correct food safety standards and that is financially and technically feasible.

-Manage the NPD process to ensure it is compliant with the standards required for Third Party accreditation (BRC Global standard).

-Conduct factory trials to scale-up new products and establish optimum manufacturing parameters.

-Working with new and current raw material suppliers to source new, high quality and cost-effective ingredients and assist Technical in the approval of new suppliers / ingredients by gathering all necessary data including product specifications, quality certification, HACCP and traceability documents, allergen information and costs.

-Kitchen trials and pre-production factory trials to determine new product feasibility and reproducibility at full scale production and to resolve issues pre-launch.

-Microbiology/Shelf-Life testing of new products to ensure they are safe for human consumption and to determine Use By dates for consumers.

-Nutritional and Shelf-life testing of new products to ensure that the nutritional composition, product safety and quality parameters of a new product meets the NPD objectives.

-Keep up to date with food safety legislation and food industry guidelines and communicate the need for change to relevant departments as required

-Recommendations made on NPD

-Ensuring product safety and stability after launch

Education and expeRience

-BSc in Food, Chemical, Processing Engineering or other related technical degree

-3 years minimum NPD experience in a similar industry/category (Caribbean, EthnicDrinks and Seasoning/Sauces)

-2 years’ experience as a chef or a similar creative background

-HACCP knowledge.

-Computer literate
