Our client is a successful Food Manufacturer producing chilled and frozen products for a wide range of customers and now has an opportunity for either an NPD or Process candidate to receive full training to become a Packaging Technologist.

ROLE

At the moment they have various people within the Technical and NPD Teams taking on different aspects of the packaging role, but they would like a dedicated packaging person. This is a brand new role and so there is complete flexibility for someone to make this their own. They do at the moment buy in all of the packaging however they have invested in some equipment so they will be able to make some of their own. They mainly supply to the Food Service Sector with some smaller retailers, but they are looking to supply some of the larger retailers, who have a huge focus on packaging sustainability and plastic packaging tax, so this will be an area of focus in the role.

Purpose

To own and drive the changeover between new and old packaging formats and gaining a full in depth understanding of current factory lines and processes.
To advise on corrective actions in order to streamline and optimize the production process through packaging where necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• To be first point of contact for anything packaging related
• To gain a full and comprehensive knowledge of the current factory processes
• Scope out areas for improvement with particular attention to initiatives relating to plastic/weight reduction and increased recyclability
• Present new concepts internally with strong rationale behind the proposal
• Management of all packaging suppliers into the entire group including carrying the relevant tasks for supplier assurance requirements that are in line with BRC, IFS and customer requirements.
• Proactively being seen to scope potential new products by researching and liaising with current supplies while approaching new suppliers but also checking on other retailers
• Actively arrange and plan trials with the support of Process/Planning dept and document said trials
• Building solid relationships with suppliers, production team and process teams
• Consider volumes/costs and MOQ’s of any new products as well as working on cost saving options without any detriment to process
• Help organise / prepare packaging samples and presentations for customer meetings.
• Artwork/Cutter guide accountability and assisting technical department with packaging spec sign off
• Business lead on all packaging related projects whether initiated internally, through customer requirements or as a result of changes in legislation

CANDIDATE

Will be working in NPD or Process with some exposure to packaging, and an interest in training and developing in this area to become a Packaging Technologist.
Will need to be working within the food industry or also could be working within a food packaging company.

Frequent travel between Warrington site and another site in Merseyside as well as trips to the Netherlands (Roughly once a month).

Working Monday – Friday, office hours with flexibility on start/finish times.
