Job Description

Our client is one of the UK’s leading food brands. The food industry is very fast paced, demanding, and constantly developing, therefore the people the company looks to join them have a great personality and the drive to exceed the customers’ expectations.

A new vacancy has arisen to join the company’s busy team, the role available is an NPD Technologist and is situated in the North of Scotland – a more specific location is available on the application. The successful candidate will ensure developed products meet design specification and are both commercially and operationally viable. Deliver to all critical path dates, ensuring timely effective communication at all times with key project stakeholders.

The Role:
• On receipt of project brief, work with cross-functional team to agree detail of design specification and critical path
• Request ingredient samples and review specifications and safety data sheets
• Concept recipe development
• Use recipe management system to raise pilot plant recipes and costing requests
• Liaise with pilot plant and application teams to scale-up and test concept products
• Liaise with product, project, process, purchasing, finance, operational, commercial, and quality teams as required, to develop simply clever food, which is delicious, functional, safe, and commercially viable, and to drive projects to agreed timelines
• Liaise with suppliers to find solutions to technical and development challenges
• Contribute and participate in gate and project meetings
• Collate feedback and lead on any further development until sign-off gates
• Handover project to factory process lead

The Candidate:
• Proven experience in base-formulating savoury and/or sweet sauces on bench, translating them into factory production, and onwards to commercial launch
• Demonstrable ability to create sauces, and innovate with ingredients and recipes that are on-trend and have broad market fit
• Ability to creatively problem-solve and adapt recipes to meet the challenges of production processes, cost criteria, and ingredient availability
• Great Communication skills
• Food science/technology degree
