Interested in working with one of the leading food manufacturers in the UK? All Engineering Managers – this is the job for you. Due to the retirement of a long-standing Engineering Manager, my client has given me the opportunity to partner themselves with this vacancy. It’s essential for the successful candidate to have experience in managing CAPEX budgets, exposure to making and working with structure changes, whilst also having a food manufacturing background.

This will be a senior management position, reporting directly to the site lead and managing a team of circa 8 engineers – all directly reporting into this position.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee any site engineering projects – plan efficiently and work with different timescales.
• Ensure PPMs are carried out and completed in a timely manner to an exceptional standard, and that the Shire system is updated.
• Manage contractor activity, including the issuing of all relevant Permits.
• Plan and manage daily engineering tasks with the team, outside any breakdown activity.
• Ensure Utility Meter readings are taken in a timely manner.
• Understand and evaluate on site engineering competencies and individual performance of engineering team.
• Implement site Engineering Team KPIS and site down time measurement matrix, to understand plant effectiveness.
• Manage the onsite engineering budget/capex.
• Implement a shift handover which ensures all relevant information, work activities and issues can be discussed and resolved.
• Line Walks – Make sure all shift engineers undertake regular line walks to discuss any ongoing issues with production staff and identify any ongoing issues that may not have been raised by production. i.e. unusual noises, smells, visual checks across all areas.
• Implement and carry out root cause analysis/5 Whys for all breakdowns over the agreed time duration.
• Attend any and all-important meetings, where engineering presence is required. Prepare any data for meetings, including the Monthly Board Report.

Candidate Requirements

• Good track record of training and developing staff.
• Time served engineer.
• Food manufacturing background is essential.
• GMP and HACCP understanding.
• Ensuring the disciplinary procedures are followed.
• Experience in Managing CAPEX projects.
• Experience in structure changes.
• Excellent understanding of PPM and driving continuous improvement on site.

• Competitive salary of circa £55,000 – £65,000 D.O.E.
