Job Description
On behalf of our client, a highly successful FMCG business in North Yorkshire, we are recruiting for a Purchasing Controller to join the team during a key period in the company’s growth
The role will suit a strong negotiator with proven procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
The Role:
• Responsible for the purchasing and negotiating of both commodities relating to production requirements along with indirect goods to facilitate the business requirements.
• Influence and engage with suppliers at all levels to achieve best price policy
• Help to maintain/lower product costs and secure new sustainable agreements
• Build and develop relationships with key suppliers and customers
• Play a key role in implementing the strategic purchasing vision and driving it forward
• Plan and procure ingredients, packaging, consumables and services as required to meet internal and external requirements, in line with Quality and Food Safety limits and policies of the company
• Build lasting and mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers to obtain the best possible prices, reduce the risk to supply, plan business continuity and maintain high quality
• Lead continuous improvement plans, focusing on assigned category spend and quality
• Use continuous evaluation measurements (e.g. benchmarks, BRC, failure rates, OTIF) to maintain a performance rating database for all suppliers
• Build strong working relationships with the Supply Chain, Production, QA, Finance, and R&D departments with increased communication and efficiency across all departments
• Forecast price trends and maintain forward pricing for all raw material and packaging categories
• Analyse trend data, improving inventory systems and control and publish comprehensive KPIs
• Negotiate contracts of key ingredients in line with historical usage, customer forecasts and predicted availability and pricing
• Support R&D, Sales and suppliers with new product development activities
• Collaborate with the Quality Team to minimise and resolve supplier quality issues
The Candidate:
• Proven and demonstrable experience of procurement in a manufacturing organisation
• Food industry experience highly desirable
• Part or fully qualified with CIPS purchasing qualification or similar
• Commercially minded
• Experience with Sage desirable
• Excellent computer skills and good communication are essential for this role.
• Organisational and self-motivated
• Ability to work to deadlines and manage competing priorities
