Job Description

On behalf of our client, we are currently searching for an Assistant Buyer/Category Manager to join their team.

Following recent investment, my client is now looking to continue their growth story which has been exceptional with this important appointment.

My client in their short life span has already risen to lead their food category. Their produce is in high demand and very on-trend now and for many years to come. If you are looking to join a business going somewhere, this is a role for you!

The role

Managing the product assortment, pricing and promotional activity across several categories
Responsible for driving key KPI’s across the categories; sales, volume, margin and % margin
Working with marketing to optimise communications and investment across the categories
Creating high-quality relationships with suppliers, agreeing on commercial terms, lead times and volumes
Analyse & extract insight from market data to guide buying/ranging decisions
Lead supplier negotiations
Conduct regular reviews with key suppliers
Work effectively across key business functions
Developing new and maintaining effective relationships with suppliers to the client, regularly assessing all the market information provided to ensure an extensive portfolio of data.
Sourcing and execution of new products working closely with the relevant teams

The candidate

Very desirable to have a food retail background in a buying capacity with a retailer, or Account manager experience dealing with a top 4 Grocer or online retailer
Proven track record of supplier/buyer management
Commercial awareness
Control and development of a supplier portfolio
Understanding of key financial accounting information
Excellent stakeholder management skills
Demonstrable influencing and negotiating skills
Empathetic & approachable
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Demonstrable background in negotiation and supplier agreements
Ability to develop relationships internally and externally
High attention to detail
Action-oriented & able to deal with multiple relationships effectively
Creative thinker able to challenge established ways of doing things
Excellent networking, interpersonal & relationship building skills
