Salary – £40,000

Location – Croydon

Hours – 7:45am – 4:15pm, 6am – 3pm, 8am – 4pm.

D R Newitt have an exciting new opportunity for an Assistant Warehouse Manager for our client based in Croydon, London. The successful candidate must provide a well-organised and safe service of the warehouse, stock control, vehicle loading and waste clearance. The successful candidate must also be available to deputise for the Dispatch Manager and provide support to the Fabrication department.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate experience of people management skills. To provide an efficient service for all internal and external customers, ensure that all health and safety checks are made every day and that any issues or faults are reported prior to use.

Main responsibilities:
• To assist the warehouse manager in planning and allocating the workload within the warehouse.
• Supporting all team members, driving and monitoring productivity in all areas of the warehouse, encouraging staff performance.
• Having a good understanding and always adhering to the company’s health and safety protocols:
o Forklift trucks are maintained and used appropriately.
o Warehouse allocated areas are clean and organised for use.
o Compliance with site rules to minimise disturbance in loading areas.
o Finished stock holding is correctly identified, documented, located, and safely housed neatly.
o Ensure that physical book stocks match and that a stock validation system is always used.
o Products despatched to the customer are correctly documented and that all customer requirements are met.
• Liaise with inspection, extrusion, gassing and fabrication departments for stock movements. Provide a service for unloading store goods and raw materials.
• Ensure that factory waste and material for recycling is collected regularly and disposed of in accordance with the company’s environmental policy.
• Maintain a good working relationship with other departments and contribute as a member of the distribution team to supply chain improvements.
• Deputise for the Despatch Manager.
• Attend meetings in Fabrication and organise materials when needed.
• Undertake such other duties as may be required commensurate with the role.

Qualifications:
• Current forklift truck certification of competency for operations of counterbalance forklift trucks.
• Basic level of education.
• Any additional qualifications in warehousing/supply chain would be desirable.

Skills:
• Have good problem solving skills and be able to anticipate issues before they become serious.
• Good oral and written communication.
• Able to work with minimum supervision.
• Customer focused.
• Good interpersonal skills and be a valued member of a team.
• Flexible – able to work weekends.

Knowledge and Experience:
• Experience of working within a warehouse/factory or loading environment, understanding of how to work safely in these environments.
• Experience of forklift activity supervision in the absence of a manager.
• Minimum 6 month experience of using a forklift truck.
• Understanding of stock management principles, rotation and layout.
• Knowledge of end-to-end warehouse processes.
• Any experience of Health and Safety Management would also be desirable.
