Specifications Technologist

Location: London
Salary: £35k DOE
Work Pattern: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Reporting To: Specifications Manager

A well-established and growing UK food business is seeking a Specifications Technologist to join its technical function. The company operates within the fast-paced retail and foodservice sectors, supplying high-quality, responsibly sourced products to major UK customers. Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing product specifications and supporting the product development lifecycle from concept through to launch. Responsibilities will include:

  • Creating, reviewing, and maintaining accurate finished product specifications for retail and foodservice customers
  • Ensuring all specifications are completed and approved in line with customer and internal deadlines
  • Managing updates to live product data, including delists and product changes
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with NPD, technical, supply chain, and commercial teams
  • Reviewing and approving artwork to ensure compliance with current food labelling legislation and customer requirements
  • Maintaining specification and artwork trackers, ensuring data accuracy and version control
  • Supporting stage gate processes and product launches to ensure timely delivery
  • Assisting with customer systems and external data submissions where required

Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a specifications or technical role within the food industry
  • Strong understanding of food labelling regulations and retailer requirements
  • Experience working with major UK retailers is highly desirable
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Proactive problem-solving approach with the ability to escalate where necessary
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • A degree in food science, technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
