Product Developer 
Location: South East England
Type: Full-time, Permanent, Hybrid – 2 days on-site

A well-established and globally recognised manufacturers within the food, beverage, and ingredients sector is seeking a Product Developer to join its Research & Development team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a business known for delivering innovative, high-quality ingredient solutions to leading brands worldwide.

The Role

As a Product Developer, you will play a pivotal role in transforming customer briefs into commercially viable, compliant, and innovative product solutions. You’ll combine creativity with technical expertise to develop formulations across a diverse product range, including nutritional premixes, supplements, functional powders, and beverages.

Working cross-functionally with sales, customers, and suppliers, you’ll manage projects from concept through to implementation, ensuring timelines, quality standards, and regulatory requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead product development projects from concept through to launch, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and commercial feasibility
  • Develop formulations, considering ingredient functionality, flavour profiles, cost, and production capabilities
  • Create and manage project timelines, ensuring all stakeholders meet key milestones
  • Stay up to date with market trends in nutrition, sports supplements, and functional ingredients
  • Ensure all formulations comply with relevant regulatory requirements for target markets
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver successful product outcomes
  • Conduct lab-based development work, including prototype creation and evaluation
  • Support product scale-up, including attendance at first production runs where required
  • Provide technical expertise across the business, including formulation and nutrition guidance
  • Contribute to innovation initiatives, including trade shows and customer presentations

About You

  • Degree-qualified in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline
  • 2–3 years’ experience in product development within food, nutrition, or functional ingredients
  • Strong understanding of food safety, quality standards, and GMP
  • Solid knowledge of ingredient functionality 
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Confident communicator, able to translate technical information for different audiences
  • Passionate about food, drink, and innovation, with a creative and solutions-focused mindset
