Are you a detail-driven Food Technologist with hands-on experience writing specifications for leading UK retailers?
We’re looking for someone who’s not only passionate about food but who knows the ins and outs of M&S, Waitrose, and Tesco technical systems and expectations.
This is your opportunity to join a forward-thinking, product-led business working on fast-paced, trend-driven innovation. You'll play a critical role in ensuring products are safe, compliant, and customer-ready—every time.
What You’ll Be Doing
This is a dynamic role where technical rigour meets creative development. Key responsibilities include:
Leading the specification writing process, with a strong focus on major retailer systems and formats
Managing technical data and documentation for retailer portals, including Allergen Risk Assessments, HACCPs, and Quality Contracts
Supporting NPD projects from concept through to launch, ensuring food safety, legality, and manufacturability
Conducting shelf-life testing, supplier audits, and quality panels
Staying up to date with UK/EU food legislation and evolving retailer technical requirements
Handling technical queries from internal teams, suppliers, and retailers
What You’ll Bring
A degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a food industry technical, quality, or NPD role – this is a brilliant opportunity to step into a role with more responsibility
Proven experience in writing specifications and managing technical documentation
Strong understanding of retailer portals and compliance systems (e.g., M&S Find, Tesco TQC, Waitrose Fusion)
Working knowledge of HACCP, food labelling regulations, allergen management, and UK/EU legislation
You Are...
A confident spec writer who can navigate retailer platforms with ease
Analytical, precise, and passionate about getting the technical detail right
Curious, self-motivated, and eager to improve and innovate
A natural collaborator who can work cross-functionally and build strong relationships
What’s In It For You
Competitive salary with annual reviews
Bonus scheme linked to company and individual performance
Flexible hybrid working to support your lifestyle
25 days holiday (rising to 30 with service)
Healthcare cash plan and pension scheme
Commitment to your professional growth and development
Regular social events and a vibrant, people-first company culture
If you're confident with retailer systems, driven by detail, and ready to make your mark in food innovation — this is your next big step.
